Language Arts/Reading

    The Houghton-Mifflin reading series uses an integrated approach to the instruction of reading and
language arts. Although fourth grade has pulled away from the spelling component, the reading
selections and language arts lessons are combined to deliver motivating and effective instruction. The
series is divided into six themes:

    Theme 1: Journeys
    Theme 2: American Stories
    Theme 3: That's Amazing
    Theme 4: Problem Solvers
    Theme 5: Heroes
    Theme 6: Nature: Friend and Foe
