

Laptop Use – Connecting to a Different Wireless Network If you wish to connect to an access point outside of the MHLT wireless network you may have to manually connect to the new network. To do so try the following:
1. In the bottom right hand corner of the screen locate the wireless connection icon.

2. Locate the network you wish to use (unless you have been given a key for an unsecured network you will be looking for a network that is unsecured)
3. Double-click on the network and then click Connect Anyway. You should then be able to connect. The wireless icon in the lower right hand portion of the screen will lose its red X and show little green lines radiating from the icon.
If you have trouble re-connecting at another time try right clicking on the wireless icon and select Repair. This may resolve the issue. If not try a total shut down and start up.
To setupl your wireless to automatically connect to a different wireless network when it is present do the following:
1. In the bottom right hand corner of the screen locate the wireless connection icon and right-click on it.
2. Click on View Available Wireless Networks
3. From the Related Tasks menu on the left side of the window select Change the Order of Preferred Networks.
4. In the bottom right corner of the this window choose Advanced.
5. Check the box to Automatically Connect to Non-preferred Networks.
6. Click Close then OK. Now your laptop will try to connect to any strong network signal after you have viewed the available networks and selected one.

Laptop Use - Accessing the Internet Outside of MHLT
In order to access the Internet at MHLT your browser must be set to use our proxy server and your IP address must be setup within Secure School. If you wish to access the Internet outside of MHLT you will need to change that setting so your computer ignores the proxy server.
To Access the Internet Using Internet Explorer Outside of MHLT:
1. Open Internet Explorer (since you cannot connect yet you may want to click Stop (red X to the right of the Address Bar).
2. Click Tools
3. Click Internet Options
4. Click Connections
5. Click Lan Settings
6. Under Proxy Settings - uncheck the box Use a proxy server for your lan.( The settings will remain, but will be grayed out).
7. Check the box to Automatically detect settings
8. Click OK on the next two screens and then restart Internet Explorer
9. Reverse the process to access the Internet at MHLT. If you have lost your proxy server settings contact Jay.
To Access the Internet Using Firefox Outside of MHLT:
1. Open Firefox
2. Click Tools
3. Click Options
4. Click the Advanced tab
5. Click Network
6. Under Connections click Settings
7. Click Direct Connection to the Internet
8. Click OK and restart the Firefox browser
9. Reverse the process to access the Internet at MHLT. If you have lost your proxy server settings contact Jay.
Laptop Troubleshooting
Problem: Laptop is frozen and will not respond to CTRL-ALT-DEL:
Depress the power button for 10 seconds. The laptop will shut down. Depress the power button to start up. If you have documents recovered by Microsoft Office save them before proceeding.
Problem: Laptop is completely dead and will not start up.
Unplug the AC adapter from the laptop. Turn the laptop over and remove the battery.
Turn the laptop back over – open – depress the power button for 10 seconds. Re-install the battery – plug the adapter in and press the power button.
Remember: Always check the cord first. Make sure the outlet has power – the power cord going into the adapter’s transformer is plugged in securely – the adapter is properly plugged into the back of the laptop.
Adding a Printer in Windows XP Pro
1. Click on Start – Choose Printers and Faxes – click on Add Printer
2. Click Next
3. Choose a Network Printer… - click Next

4. Select Connect to this printer…( leave the text box empty) click Next

5. Wait (up to 1 minute) for a list of computers to show.

6. Double click on the appropriate computer (see Printer List below) to show the printers managed by that computer. A list of acceptable printers and the computers follow.
7. Click on the printer you wish to load. Click Next.
8. Select yes or no to determine if this should be set as your default printer – (this is the printer that will come up first when you select the Print option).
9. Click Finish – (stick a fork in it – you’re done).

Please choose from the printers on this list. The other printers serve other clients and special purposes.
Printing in Black and White to a Color Laser
1. After selecting Print choose the printer and select Properties

While the layout will vary for each printer, you need to find the option to change from Color to Black and White or Grayscale. Make the change and select OK. Select OK to print.
PLEASE DO NOT PRINT IN COLOR UNLESS IT IS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY. NEVER PRINT EMAILS IN COLOR OR MORE THAN 2 COPIES IN COLOR.
Remember: the order of expense for printing is (from very least to excessively most)
1. Copier 2. Black Laser 3. Color Laser 4. Inkjet
Printing to the Workroom Copier
1. Select Canon IR9070 to print to (if it is not loaded follow the steps above to add it).

2. Click on Properties

3. Choose Store from the drop down menu. (if you do not choose to Store the print job it will be sent immediately and will interrupt anyone currently using the copier – now be nice).
4. Click Yes
5. Choose any mailbox number – name your job – press OK
6. You can set the copier
to print on both sides or use other copier features by selecting them using the
Properties menu that is on the screen – For instance: to print on both sides of
each page - 
Choose Finishing – click the drop down menu and select 2-sided Printing – click OK to return to the Print screen.
7. Click OK at the Print screen to send the print job.
8. At the copier – select Mailboxes – touch the mailbox number you selected – touch Print (left side) and then done
9. Touch Copy to go back to the main screen for the next user
Printing to the Library Copier

1. Add the Library copier as you would any printer following the Add Printers instructions above.
2. When you are ready to print select the Library Copier
3. If you want to use any copier functions choose Properties

4. When you are ready to print select OK on the Properties screen and then OK to print
5. The job is sent immediately and will print after any current copier jobs finish.
