What I teach: fifth grade recorders and general music, sixth grade band and general music, and seventh/eighth grade band and jazz band.
Major topics I cover: In general music: music style periods, form in music, instrument and vocal timbre sights and sounds, and composers. In band: basic techniques on how to play their instruments, music reading skills, and improvisation.
Special projects or performances: In General music (6th): a group project on a music style period. In the Bands: Two main concert performances each year, solo and ensemble contest, memorial day performances with all area bands (7th/8th), honors band day (7th/8th), many community service concerts etc.
Field trips: 5th/6th general music: Music Listening Team District and State competitions. The Bands: many community service concerts, performances with area bands, the UW Stevens Point Jazz Festival, Honors Band Concerts etc.
Awards I have won: I am presently President-Elect of the Wisconsin Youth Band Directors Association and will be president in 2006-2007 and 2007-2008.
