Minutes

April 3, 2006

The meeting was called to order at 3:30 pm by president Ellen Wynkoop.

Cathy Gelinas moved to approve the agenda.  Ellen Wynkoop seconded the motion.

Fawn Turner made a motion to accept the minutes, seconded by Ellen Wynkoop; motion carried.

The Treasurer’s report was presented by Ellen Wynkoop.  The proceeds from the spaghetti dinner and the silent auction have been deposited.  There are some funds that still need to be paid for Skate Time and Missoula Children’s Theatre from the Cultural Events section.  Cathy Gelinas moved to accept the report, seconded by Mrs. Turner.

Billy Fried came to update PTO regarding plans for playground improvements.  A project for drainage improvements has been presented to the board and accepted.  This project will be carried out this summer.  The committee has also been meeting to discuss an overall equipment plan for the three playgrounds.  Mr. Fried anticipated that a plan will be in place and a piece of equipment could possibly be purchased and installed over the summer.

Requests:

Pam Schoville submitted an updated request for Olympian Chris Cook.  She requested a $400-500 stipend for him.  There was a discussion regarding what an appropriate stipend would be, and comparisons were made to other fees for professional speakers.  Ellen Wynkoop will discuss the amount further with Pam so that we have a firm amount.

Ellen Wynkoop made a motion to approve funding for a guest speaker for Starlab, seconded by Mrs. Turner.  Motion carried.

There was an update on the silent auction by Ellen Wynkoop.  There are plans being made for next year already.

The cookie dough fundraiser was kicked off this week.  Lisa Ottoson began coordinating the event and Ellen is continuing with logistics.  This will be a quick fundraiser for only 1 week.  Cookie dough will be delivered on May 3rd.  Ten volunteers are needed to help pass out and sort the cookie dough.  Distribution will begin at 2:30 pm.

Open House ideas for 2006-7: Should we stick with the early September date for open house next year, or do we want to try something new, such as before school starts?  Ellen will discuss this with Peg Wolff to see if we should be exploring other date options.

The spring concerts are May 8th and May 18th.  An ice cream social will follow each concert.  Ellen will coordinate getting volunteers and acquiring ice cream.

May 1 will be the next meeting.

The meeting was adjourned at 4:30 pm.
